Nowadays, more and more parents seem to choose homeschooling over public school education, and there are some good reasons for this.

What’s the purpose of education? What methods and techniques work best for children?

The honest answer will be none and every. Clearly, it means that the “one size fits all” approach is far from being perfect, and every student is gifted in their own way. Unfortunately, our schools have a strict educational system, which is offered to the parents of young scientists, artists, and dreamers. For those who don’t agree with such an order, homeschooling is a great choice.

So let’s get down to particular reasons why homeschooling is a great way to educate kids.

1. No Obsession with “right” and “wrong”

We can debate the reasoning behind the problem but one thing is obvious – school learning lacks flexibility. While it’s a clear necessity that every educational program needs structure, this structure has to be an additional element that keeps everything together like glue. Not the premier goal.

It’s still important to teach kids and teens about authority and respect. As long as it does not turn into creativity-squelching. The balance between putting emphasis on teacher’s opinion and student’s engagement in classroom discussion is essential. Only this way of learning will turn our future generation into open-minded explorers, inventors, artists and leaders, and not narrow-minded working tools.

Another issue that comes out is that our children are studying to pass the exam, not to have skills that will be useful in practice. As a parent and teacher, try to change the purpose of learning in favor of knowledge itself instead of passing the test. And your kid will have better chances than the majority.

2. Academic vs Emotional intelligence

The theory is the basis of every subject. But is it true that if you perfect every academic subject, you become a well-adjusted, intelligent person?

Emotional intelligence is a huge part of adult life. How to teach the true meaning of a process, its causes, and consequences? The application of cooperation in problem-solving?

The sad reality is that children don’t gain these skills at school. It will be useful to experiment with communication exercises. Keep that in mind when creating the homeschooling curriculum for your kid.

3. Fair treat

The are many learning and development disabilities that require a special approach. The biggest mistake that school officials can make is to place, for example, an introverted kid in the same group with mentally retarded children. That happens very often.

How much time can be wasted in debates with a principal in attempts to get your child on track with everyone else? You, as a parent, know your kid’s weaknesses better than everyone else, so being a home teacher will be your second nature.

4. Family values

When you homeschool your child, you will be spending more quality time with them. It is not uncommon for homeschooled children to develop closer relationships with their parents and have more trust from a younger age.

What’s also worth mentioning is that spending extra time with family has a positive influence from the psychological point of view. Teenagers spend most of their active life at school. So the understanding of ethics is highly influenced by the school environment. In the case of homeschooling, family values oppose the consumerism mindset that is widely spread in schools today.

5. Absent Social barriers

In public schools, there is always a bully in one form or another. It doesn’t mean that you have to be over-protective. Having social activities with peers is as important as emotional stability. While an equal punishment system for a bully and a victim is alive, it’s great to have homeschooling as an option.

Another common issue is a language barrier that prevents ESL students from achieving good grades. Unfortunately, a school-based educational system can’t provide foreigners with a friendly learning process. This is another reason for taking homeschooling into account.

6. Control of Curriculum

The curriculum is one of the main reasons why parents choose to homeschool their children. Whether they dislike or disagree with the public school systems, parents can manage and control what their child learns.

In today’s world, parents can access more information which allows their child to learn whatever they want. When choosing a customized curriculum for your child, you can add to their educational needs. Your child will have a chance to learn at their own pace and study the subjects they are most interested in.

Homeschooling has its benefits for parents and children and more and more families realize that these advantages outweigh the traditional public school attendance.

Homeschooling can allow your children to thrive if they are provided with everything they need. And if you think that you’re a caring parent, prove it by giving your kid the best possible education and raise them an open-minded, critically-thinking person with their own point of view.

Pupils who undergo homeschooling possess better life skills than their counterparts in traditional learning system. I will prefer to nurture my kids emotional intelligence over academic knowledge in their formative years in school
