There are many ways that human beings become successful in life – buying a new home, embarking upon a new career and also raising a family. These situations do not come easy, however, and may even take some serious patience and hard work. Another way that humans become successful is by feeling content in their own minds. The mental state of the human being is often the starting point to all the other successes in their lives, and being of sound mind can carry a hefty weight in creating a thriving lifestyle.
According to Brooke Feeney, a professor of social psychology at Carnegie Mellon Hall in Pittsburg, there may be a link between strong relationships and success. In particular, a thriving life can be attained by having a “support system”. What this means is that relationships, of all kinds, can directly affect the way we understand and utilize motivation.
Feeney stated that a thriving person is in all respects a happy person, going from one goal to the other with ease. Their minds are basically clear and focused on the end goal. When goals are being completed, the person is continuing to grow with positive reinforcement. In a relationship, the other person can help to keep everything stabilized and going in the right direction. Thus, the relationship can actually serve as a goal incubator, continually nourishing and polishing the thriving individual. Relationships can also work both ways, with each member helping one another and continually offering feedback.
The relationship can consist of many things. A romantic relationship is only one form of union that can be a successful support system. When involved in a union, each person can have an amazing impact on one another. Since there is deep love involved, the concern from one to the other will be almost identical to love of self. That is if the relationship is healthy. As success is reached on the job and with other family members, the other partner can cheer them on and offer additional advice to further the thriving being.
Relationships can also consist of parents and children. Good parenting can directly affect the life of the child, this is a well-known fact. According to basic psychological studies, children will learn the bulk of their personalities by the age of 7, building the foundations of their lives to come. Best friends can also offer a great support system for each other, and keep this connection well into old age and even to the death of one or the other.
When the going gets tough
When times get hard, true relationships do not dissolve, in fact, they grow stronger. This reinforcement is what helps the individual continue to thrive. According to Alan Finkel, hard times help people to show their best sides, when they are helping loved ones. Even though there may have been issues within the relationship, tough situations can help strengthen and fortify the bonds that are so very important to each member of the union. It will become apparently true that a deep emotion still resides within the relationships.
It is actually within these relationships that friends, lovers and family members can coax one another to come out of their shells. If one member of the relationship is faced with problems that are unfamiliar, the support person may encourage them to try something new or face the change. Only close friends or loved ones will be able to do this.
Not all situations are hard, however, and many times they are glorious. Either way, relationships have been shown to greatly fulfill all areas of life. Among thriving individuals in the world, those who are in relationships of some kind, greatly outnumber those who are not. It seems that relationships may be the answer to success, either directly or from a distance.
