The below list of quotes about fake people reveals a few sobering truths about human hypocrisy. It also shows what it means to be a real person in a fake society.

Fakeness is everywhere. It’s a disappointing truth to consider that using a fake persona might be in human nature because this is how the society works. It doesn’t favor blunt personalities with integrity – it favors those who play according to its rules and adjust better to the circumstances.

Our whole society is based on the cult of fakeness. Take social media narcissism and the need to showcase a perfect life online as an example. And I’m not even mentioning the grotesque hypocrisy of politicians and the false façade of the showbiz industry. It seems that the very role models in today’s society represent nothing but fakeness and shallowness.

But let’s forget about society for a moment and take a few examples from our everyday lives. We are supposed to smile and say nice things to other people, even when we don’t mean them. We are supposed to reply, “Fine” to the question “How are you?” even when we are not fine.

By learning these behaviors from an early age, we grow up to care about making a good impression rather than about forming a genuine connection with other people. This often results in us being more concerned about social expectations and other people’s opinions than our own happiness.

Yes, you could say that small talk and pleasantries are harmless and are simply a matter of good manners. After all, it’s not only the fake people who participate in this perpetual theater of polite conversation. Everyone does.

But some people take it to the next level. They lie, make fake compliments, and pretend to like you for the sake of taking advantage of you. And yet, such people usually get further in life than those with honest personalities.

The below quotes about fake people highlight the things that separate them from real people:

It’s funny how everyone who lies becomes popular and everyone who tells the truth becomes a psycho.

Do Fake People Create a Fake Society or Vice Versa?

These quotes about fake people make me ponder this question. Where does all this fakeness come from? Does it originate from the very nature of human beings or does our society prompt us to adopt inauthentic behaviors?

As with everything, the truth is somewhere in the middle. It’s undeniable that human nature is full of flaws and selfish impulses. In any era and society, there will be people who will want it all for themselves. To achieve this, they will lie, cheat, and pretend to be someone they are not.

From Ancient Rome to the 21st century, there have been intrigues and psychological games in different layers of society. This didn’t start today, with the rise of social media when everyone can become an Internet celebrity and feed their vanity in countless ways.

The truth is that all this narcissism has just become more obvious today, thanks to the Internet. But selfish and fake people have always existed and will always exist. Some people are just wired this way, and modern society is skilfully using it to feed our shallowest instincts and distract us from the truth.

Now that I know what narcissism is, I see it everywhere. I try very hard to be honest all the time. I am not good at lying, or detecting lies. As I read these quotes, I thought about how the world loves liars. I feel so lost, hopeless even. Why is so much time spent on teaching character and values, when lies and dishonesty are rewarded? I am beginning to understand why I feel so unhappy these days.

The human being is imperfect to the end of the hair. Truth and Lie, Honesty and Falsehood are just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for sharing those graphics…I’m giving you credit for everyone I saved! As for where all of the lies come from, I believe I can answer that. All of the ‘fakeness’ you refer to comes from either Protection or Provision. Protection includes protecting what you value most, from reputation to wrong doings…yours and those of others that you value most. Where protection is defensive, Provision is offensive…to get what you want or need, from a better job to a better spouse. But both of them stem from a sense of inadequacy or laziness, resorting to what’s easier than dealing with the truth, to the inability to think of any better option. When you want to protect or get something YOU want, even if it is for someone else you care about, you can either deal with the truth or take the easy way out and ‘fake’ your way through it, based on what you value most. And know this, the better someone gets at faking the smaller things, you can bet they’ve learned a lot about faking the bigger things too. As for me, I’m awful at faking the little things…so I won’t get any better at faking the bigger ones….
