There are lots of things to do with family and friends, but there are also many things to do when alone on Christmas.

The holidays are exciting, and there are always so many things to enjoy with family and friends. But even if you’re alone on Christmas, you can have fun.

Things to do when alone on Christmas

It’s not bad to be alone during the holidays. There are many things you can do to enjoy Christmas and stay in the cheerful spirit. Here are several ways to enjoy the holidays all by yourself without a care in the world.

1. Enjoy winter landscape

If it’s not too unbearably cold, then you can go outside and enjoy the winter wonderland. And yes, you can do this all by yourself on Christmas. Take a nice walk, enjoy snowfall, and sit on your porch with a nice hot cup of tea.

2. Cook whatever you want

Since you’re alone, you don’t have to adhere to the traditional Christmas fare. You don’t have to take suggestions for entrees or desserts either. You can prepare and eat whatever you want, whether it’s Christmas inspired or not.

3. A movie marathon

Most of the time, you don’t have time to indulge in movie or television show marathons, but on Christmas, you can.

If you’re alone on Christmas, you can pick out a new show you’ve been wanting to watch and enjoy the entire season while eating treats. It can be lazy but lots of fun.

4. Research about Christmas

When looking for things to do on Christmas, consider researching the date. You might be surprised by what you find out about this holiday. In fact, I can tell you this: Christmas has a long and convoluted history that will keep you enthralled all day long.

5. Be lazy all-day

Even if you don’t watch television or movies, you can still be lazy all day. You can take lots of naps, listen to music and just do nothing at all. No, it’s not good to do this all the time, but if you’re alone on Christmas and you want to be lazy, then go ahead.

6. Decorate the yard

Just because you’re alone doesn’t mean you cannot decorate your yard and the exterior of your house. If there are difficult things, skip those and just research how to make huge ornaments that you can hang from the lower limbs of the trees.

Buy a festive welcome mat, a small Christmas projector that creates the illusion of stars, shining around your yard, and even hang candy canes alongside your windchimes. From big to small projects, decorating the yard can be super fun when you’re alone.

7. Spend the day painting

If you’re an artist, or even if you’re not, try painting. Spend Christmas day being inspired by your imagination or the landscape. You can try realism or an abstract painting. Just have fun with it.

8. Volunteer

If you’re alone, but you want to help others, volunteer to hand out Christmas dinners, or shop for Christmas gifts for the needy. You can work at the local soup kitchen.

Afterward, when you return home, you can enjoy a nice glass of wine and feel content knowing you spent Christmas helping others enjoy their holidays.

9. Do puzzles or play games

Even if you are alone during Christmas, you can play games. This includes console or computer games. You can play solo, or you can play online with others around the world.

If you rather keep the solo vibe and a quiet atmosphere, then enjoy a puzzle. If you get a large one, it will keep you busy all day, and maybe even days to come.

10. Read a good book

Reading is wonderful. And Christmas is a great time to enjoy a book. Since you will be alone, this means you can read the entire book in one day, free of distractions and responsibilities.

11. Enjoy some physical activity

Exercise is seen sometimes as a chore, but it releases endorphins. If you do a workout or go for a run, you will feel fantastic at Christmas. Then you have the rest of the day to try some of these other ideas.

12. Visit church/spiritual aspects

If it’s your thing, and if they are open to the public, then visit a church. You can enjoy Christmas by acknowledging your spirituality. Spend time in prayer or if you aren’t at church, spend time in meditation.

14. Take time for self-care

Are you really looking for things to do on Christmas? Well, here is one of my favorites, whether there are people around or not.

You can use this day or part of this day to invest in self-care. Take a nice long bath, give yourself a manicure, haircut, or try a new cosmetic. Whatever you try, make sure it’s enjoyable.

15. Listen to a non-Christmas playlist

Almost everyone will be listening to Christmas music, and that’s good. But that music can get old fast. If you’re alone, create a different playlist of favorite songs and play those instead. You can even sing along, dance, and have a wonderful time with no judgment.

16. Make a new tradition

There are many holiday traditions already, so why not create your own. If you’re alone, then create a new thing to do each Christmas, even if next Christmas you have company. You can introduce them to your new tradition as well.

17. Consider realistic New Year’s Resolutions

The New Year isn’t here yet, so why not use Christmas day to consider realistic resolutions. Think of things you’re actually more likely to complete. You can list and think about this all day long, giving yourself a quality plan for the future.

18. You can work

Most people don’t want to work on Christmas, but if you’re alone, you might want to work. Being at work gives you people to socialize with, or if you work alone, it can keep you occupied until the day is done.

19. Travel and explore

Before Christmas gets here, and you know you’re going to be alone, plan a trip. You don’t have to travel far, just pick a random place and save a bit of money for a small getaway. Take a road trip, or visit a landmark. It’s your choice.

20. Enjoy some photography

If you enjoy photography, winter provides many photo opportunities and different perspectives to help you create amazing images. If it’s snowing you can try to catch the best snowfall shot, or even capture a snowflake on film.

Forget it’s Christmas and do what you want

If you’re alone on Christmas, you can even forget what day it is all together, and do what you normally would do. Finding activities to do during the holidays when you’re alone isn’t difficult. Having fun is what matters.

Maybe you can try some of these ideas or create your own. I’d love to hear what you are doing if you are alone on Christmas.

Merry Christmas, by the way.
