If you’re in a relationship with someone who thrills you to bits, and you feel empty when he or she leaves you, you could be dating a sociopath.

However, you feel used at times. Also, your partner may abuse you verbally. Dating a sociopath may make you emotionally uncomfortable.

So, how would you know that your partner is a sociopath? Here are eleven signs that you may have more than romance on your hands.

What Happens When You Fall In Love With A Sociopath?

Sociopaths are people who can’t empathize with anyone and dislike people. They don’t follow the norms and rules of society. However, such people are unpredictable. Therefore, you may wonder if sociopaths can fall in love.

Sociopaths can have affection for their partners, as long as it’s not deep. To them, loving others should give them a sense of power or personal gain. It means pretending.

For sociopaths, real love is a game, and they play it to win. Sociopaths will charm their partners when they sense that they can gain from their relationships. They try to win their partner’s trust.

Relationships with sociopaths are full of fun and laughter. You may not know that you’re involved with them because they behave in a way you like.

11 Signs That You Are Dating A Sociopath

So what are the red flags? Sociopaths are not necessarily dangerous, but they can make life unbearable.

1. A Super Sized Ego

First of all, sociopaths have egos the height and size of Mt. Everest. They prize their worth over everyone else and feel that they should have privileges. They blame others when things do not go their way.

2. Lying

Sociopaths will find ways to charm and manipulate you. They will lie to gain satisfaction from tricking you. Each lie they tell will become larger than the next.

3. Shamelessness

Also, sociopaths have no sense of shame. One of the signs of Antisocial Personality Disorder is a lack of shame or guilt.

4. Lack of empathy

You’ll find that sociopaths are not understanding and have problems showing their real feelings.

5. Eerie Calm

Another trait of sociopaths is uneasy calmness. They don’t show their emotions during tense situations. While they scare others, sociopaths will show no expression.

6. Irresponsible Behavior

Sociopaths are irresponsible and are prone to act on the spur of the moment. You’ll find them late for appointments. They often forget their obligations to others and aren’t sorry that they do.

7. Charm

Sociopaths are so charming that you may fall in love with them instantly. You’ll find your parents fussing over your partner when you take him or her home. He or she will become a hit with your friends and relatives as well.

8. Seek Pleasure

Sociopaths want sexual satisfaction from their partners. Your partner probably had many relationships before getting together with you.

9. Few Friendships

Sociopaths don’t have many friends. You won’t find your partner introducing you to his or her buddies.

10. Disregarding social norms

You may find your partner refusing to greet your relatives or friends, though you may have urged him or her to do so. Sociopaths have little respect for social norms.

11. Intense gaze

Finally, sociopaths will look at you as though they can read your mind. They don’t look away, so you may mistake them for being aggressive or seductive.

What to do when you’re dating a sociopath

Though sociopaths may charm you, it won’t take long before they show themselves. If you have such a partner, manage the situation before it drains you. Show him or her that you won’t fall for his or her schemes.

First of all, understand what drives sociopaths. They want power, so they usually do things with a purpose. Know that there are motives behind their actions.

Also, recognize how manipulative sociopaths are. Your partner was probably at the center of a love triangle. The relationship was probably dramatic.

Another point to note is that sociopaths won’t care about your feelings, so appealing to them won’t work. Don’t talk things through with your partner. Instead, distance yourself so that you’ll have the power to stand up to him or her. Show your partner that he or she doesn’t have control over you.

If you’ve found out that you are dating a sociopath, don’t despair. Realize that you deserve better than him or her. Show that you won’t fall for his or her tricks, and move away from the relationship.
