Most of us have wondered why we’re alive. We sit and ponder this feeling, asking others and seeking spiritual answers. Sometimes, only a few meaning of life quotes can answer those questions.
It wasn’t long, after childhood, that I started to question my existence. I cannot say that others were doing this at the same time, and at the same level. All I knew was that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t come up with answers to my difficult questions. Only until I started to look within and connect with a few meaning of life quotes that inspired me, that I found satisfaction in my curiosity.
Quotes that inspire
There are quotes that make you smile, there are quotes that are relatable, and then there are quotes that make you expand your mind. Meaning of life quotes do just that. Here are a few examples!
“We’re here for a reason. I believe a bit of the reason is to throw little torches out to lead people through the dark.”
-Whoopi Goldberg
Have you ever considered your existence as a tool to help others, to bring them through the darkness of their despair? Maybe you are here to do just that. You can be a light when someone is too weak to carry their own light. You can be an inspiration for them to have hope.
“Life is a long road on a short journey.”
-James Lendall Basford
If you just thought about the length of human life, then you could put things into perspective. The truth is, your life is a long process in a short period of time. There are roads and paths that lead in different directions. You can choose one or the other, or one and then the other. This is why life seems so long, but is really so short.
“Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you can only spend it once.”
-Lillian Dickson
There is a simple meaning in life which can either terrify you or keep you motivated. The truth lies in the choices we make. We can spend our life doing whatever we want to do, and being with whomever we wish to spend our time. One thing is for certain, however, we can only spend our lives once until it is finished.
“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they’ve ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.”
-Jim Carey
It takes some wisdom to understand that money isn’t everything, neither is fame. In fact, I’ve watched more heartbreak come from prosperity than from poverty. Jim Carey speaks of understanding this because he has seen and experienced first hand what money and fame can produce. In a nutshell, it’s not the meaning of life.
“The man who is born with a talent which he is meant to use finds his greatest happiness in using it.”
-Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Whenever you discover what you are good at, you will find a certain contentment when doing this thing. Whether it’s painting, writing, playing an instrument, you will connect in some aspects to the meaning of life. These meaning of life quotes can motivate you to search for that talent.
“It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is.”
-Hermann Hesse
This is one area that I have struggled with for many years. I see myself in a certain way, and it’s difficult sometimes to accept the differences in others. First I strived to change them, then I tried to push them to be better at who they are.
The truth is, we have to be us and we have to change at our own pace if we feel the need to change at all. One of the meanings of life is to accept and appreciate our differences.
“Every moment of your life is infinitely creative and the universe is endlessly bountiful. Just put forth a clear enough request and everything your heart desires must come to you.”
-Mahatma Gandhi
All things are possible in life. Our deepest and most sought after dreams can be realized. Many times we fail to understand that we hold the power to achieve these dreams. We often give up because we place our destiny in the hands of others. We only need to speak what we want and we can have it.
“To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funnybone.”
-Reba McEntire
What a ridiculously beautiful way to explain true existence through the meaning of life quotes! You need a wishbone, which is your dreams, goals, and what you want out of life. You need a backbone so that you have the courage to face what life throws at you.
Most of all, you need a funnybone, so that no matter what you have to deal with, you can still find a way to laugh and be happy.
“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.”
-Havelock Ellis
In life, you will encounter such heartwrenching experiences that it may seem too hard to bear. This is a part of life. One of the largest tests that life will hand us is how to discern when to let go of things and when to hold on. It’s not always an easy task.
“Few of us write great novels; all of us live them.”
-Mignon McLaughlin
Not everyone is a writer, capable of completing a best seller, but we all have a story worthy of a best selling novel. Let us never forget how colorful and tragic our lives can be. Our stories should be heard and appreciated if possible.
“Sometimes questions are more important than answers.”
-Nancy Willard
We are always going to search for answers, but that’s not the meaning of life. The true meaning is the type of questions we ask. Answers do not expand our minds like the deep wonderings of our souls.
The meaning of life
So, what is the meaning of life for you? It takes time to discover many things about yourself and what you truly desire. It sometimes takes time to understand your talents and be able to use them in a way that enlightens you. I will leave you with one more of the meaning of life quotes to comfort your soul.
“There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person.”
-Anais Nin
