In our society, it’s hard to become your own person. There is a massive push to be liked by all, hated by none, yet, this task in itself is detrimental to your health.

Managing how you accept the judgment and opinions of others is a monumental step in becoming more secure in yourself and your life.  When you stop putting so much weight into other people’s opinions, you will enjoy what you have done more than you ever had before. While it is easier said than done, here are some tips for putting yourself first.

1. Own Your Actions

We all have a past, regrets, and broken promises. While all of these are givens, the way you handle them is what is essential to promoting a better future. Before you can expect other to think of you in the way that you desire, you need to feel the same way about yourself.

If you realize your past has altered your perception of yourself, along those images. You do not have to be proud of every moment in your life, but do not dwell on them. Instead, you can see them as learning opportunities.

2. Do What Makes You Happy

Before you think this is not going to get the results you want, you need to give it a chance. In all reality, being confident in yourself will give others a guide on how you want to be treated and perceived.

Even though, you do not need to worry about what others are thinking of you. By doing what makes you happy, you are progressing yourself, which is the most important aspect of your life and a key point in your overall wellbeing.

3. Make New Connections

When you surround yourself with the wrong people, process is hard to recognize. One of the biggest fears many people have is that that they will not be accepted by a new group of friends, which in itself is what is holding you back!

Take a serious look at your relationships, yes, even friendship is a relationship. Who in your circle can you trust with your confessions? Sometimes the easiest process is making a new circle that you can have a fresh slate with.

4. Be Accepting

Realize that not everyone will have a kind word for you, they may not like you, in fact, and they may go out of their way to make life rough for you. Quit taking it personally and accept that the fact that those people will always be like that.

Instead of trying to change their mind, showing them that you are different, do what you do best and let them do the legwork. No matter what the situation is, leave it be, and you will be a much happier person for it.

Living in a society where self-hate is acceptable but being accepting of your neighbor is not is very difficult. However, life was never meant to be easy, and if it is, you are one of the lucky few. You do not have to put weight into others’ opinions since they are not the ones ultimately controlling your life.

Do what makes you happy, be confident in your actions, and live life the way you feel that you should.
