Here are five signs that you should trust yourself more – check them out to find if any of these scenarios hold true for you.

If you don’t trust yourself and are always driven by what others think of you, say about you and tell you what to do – then you might be in some big trouble. Most of the times people do have good intentions to help you, but in case you deal with negative people, they can play you for your sensibilities for their own cheap thrills.

People inherently never go with other people’s advice. The strong ones always make their own decisions. Even if some of those decisions may bring their downfall, the fact that they owned up to the occasion and took a stand made a decision of theirs enough to tide them through any kind of suffering. It’s all a learning process, after all. With mistakes, you learn the hard way, but you do learn.

Below are five signs that you should trust yourself more. Do any of these scenarios hold true for you?

1. You won’t step out of your door or that retail store without having someone to tell you how good that outfit looks on you.

This is a rather tricky place to be in because your own style is what defines you; it could be totally different for someone else. Listening to other people for every single outfit can be frustrating. All that stress could literally affect your body and mind.

What to do? Be your own boss. Listen to your own inner guiding voice that will scream at you – if you are willing to listen – and tell you what looks good on you and what doesn’t.

Either way, if you feel good about what you have on, people would only sense that confidence off of you. If you feel good, you’ll look good!

2. You wait for others to decide what to eat, which movie to watch or which bar to go to.

You wait for everyone else to decide what to do with a free evening or a weekend, and you do this because you don’t really want to be a fool in front of everyone else by offering up a place, a movie or anything else that could displease others.

What to do? Remember that life is all about chances. This is your life and only you can decide to do things that make you happy.

You don’t have to watch a chick flick just because all the others want to watch it every time; you can step up and tell them you want to watch the next Bond movie! You wanted to watch it, you’ve been waiting for it. Go ahead and step up.

3. People are talking about others and you don’t agree with what they say; you don’t say anything and wait for the conversation to change to another topic.

Such situations can be tough, especially if you don’t like confronting people or calling them out for doing something morally incorrect. Even if people were gossiping about others or even you, not doing anything about it – when you want to and need to – only makes you part of the party.

What to do? Face your fears, whatever they might be, and do what is right. When you stand up for yourself or others, it gives you an awesome sense of accomplishment. It’s like you are protecting yourself and the others who are being talked about.

You could then be one of those people who never talk negatively about others and be the kind of person who always has only positive things to say about others. If you can relate to this, then remember that people who bad mouth others are quick to do the same about you.

4. You want to do something new but would hate to do it alone.

Whether it is taking up a dance class, art class, or baking, going bungee jumping, stepping up on that karaoke stage, you want to do it but just wouldn’t because you don’t want to embarrass yourself or, worse, you hate what people would think of you when you did.

What to do? When you are passionate about something, waiting around for another friend to join you in something they have a remote interest in would only bring you down.

You could actually meet new people, make new friends and acquaintances in the activities you love to do! Trust yourself and take the leap. Doing something you love is only good for your soul. Just do it.

5. You hate being alone.

You’d prefer to always be in the company of multiple people, letting them hang around at your house or being in theirs for no particular reason. You hate being alone at home or doing anything fun by yourself.

What to do? Remember that you don’t always need to have people around you to have fun. You can do what you love to do and have a great time just being by yourself.

As soon as you learn to trust yourself more than anybody else, your life will change for the better. If you can relate to any of these scenarios, then now you know what to do to snap out of it.

Self Confidence is what I have been struggling with all my life. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love it because there is nothing you can ever accomplish without it. You can be an eagle living with chickens in a farm, thinking you are a chicken too, till one day you realize you can fly! I hate it because you might fool yourself into thinking you have abilities you do not have: a chicken living with eagles not realizing you are a food source! Decisions, decisions! It feels great feeling like a chicken still learning to fly like an eagle. Thanks for a great article Valerie.
