For those of you who have never seen the Matrix, the main character Neo is offered a choice between a red pill and a blue pill. The blue pill will let him remain in the fabricated reality of the Matrix, while the red one would take him out of the Matrix and into the real world.

The choice is not as straightforward as it may seem because living in the Matrix is simpler and more comfortable than the harsh reality of the outside world. Should Neo choose what he knows and stay in his comfort zone or face the unknown and potentially harsh reality of the world outside the Matrix? Should we?

The idea of taking the red pill caught on in the public’s imagination. The idea is that the red pill offers truth, unmediated by the constructs of modern society. For those who seek spiritual awakening, the answer is easy.

Taking the red pill, and experiencing life as it truly is rather than through the filter of the ego and society gives life meaning. But be warned, a spiritually awakened life is not easy.

Here are four struggles you might face after swallowing that little red pill.

1. You may lose some friends

The people in our lives are used to us being the way we are. When we begin to change in drastic ways, they can begin to feel uncomfortable for two reasons. Firstly, they were used to us the way we were and had built their lives around us remaining that way.

Secondly, because they may be happy in their comfort zone and don’t want to have to confront the idea that there is an alternative way to live that might be better but harder. You might also choose not to associate with people whose company you used to enjoy because you now find negativity, bitchiness and gossip depleting.

2. You may feel the need to change your life drastically

The new you may not be happy with the life you are leading. You may find that you can no longer relate to people you once cared about, or you can no longer contemplate doing the same job any longer.

You may want to change the way you work, shop, socialise and entertain yourself. Things you used to love to do may have less meaning. You might find watching the news or light entertainment shows unbearable. You will question everything about your life and that can be extremely disorientating.

3. Things may fall apart

As a result of these new feelings, your life may feel like it is falling apart. You might find significant relationships break down and that the things you have striven to achieve, such as a nice home, fancy car, flash job title, mean nothing to you anymore.

You may feel confused and anxious at times. Your life may feel chaotic now that the beliefs you used to rely on have changed beyond recognition. Spiritual awakening is by no means always the blissful experience we might have hoped for.  You might long for a chance to change your mind and take the blue pill instead.

4. You may feel like you are going a little crazy

When everything in your life changes so drastically, you might find yourself losing your sense of self. This can be scary, and it may even feel like your mental health is suffering. In these dark days, it is hard to see an end to the struggles.

However, be reassured that things will get better. The process of spiritual awakening is not easy, but the benefits are worth it. Eventually, things will start to fall into place and your new direction will become clear.

To help you get through these difficult times, take care of yourself. Make sure you get enough sleep and exercise, eat well, and meditate. Reading spiritual books and the stories of others who have gone through the process can also help you feel less alone.

The struggles of taking the red pill can be intense, but these feelings are a temporary and yet necessary way to move into a life that has real meaning for you.

These struggles are the birthing process of the new you. Once you work through these issues, you will find people you can truly relate to, work that has inherent meaning for you, and a way of living that brings you peace and joy.

Your spiritual work is never done though, there will be further challenges ahead that will lead to further levels of spiritual awareness, so fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a wild and exhilarating ride.

Red pill means freedom and blue one means slavery. Parents has one duty when we
    look symbolically…
To keep us alive until waking up and choose reality and meaningful experiences.
Red pill and blue pill is story of humanity…
