There are two neighboring islands. In the first one live two men: an uncivilized savage and a civilized man. On the other island, there are several people, among them a girl who is in love and has a relationship with the civilized man.
The girl wants to go to the opposite island to meet her lover. She asks the only boatman of the island how much he wants to take her there. The boatman says that he does not want money and he will take her to the other island if she is naked in the boat.
The girl is shocked… not knowing what to do she goes to the wise man of the island to ask for help. He listens to her story with attention and gives the following advice: “Do what your heart tells you, my child…” So the girl decides to accept the proposal of the boatman in order to meet her beloved man.
So, they go to the other island. But when they arrive, the savage is on the seafront and gets crazy at the sight of the naked woman so he rapes her… At the same moment, the civilized man comes and sees the scene. He goes mad and tells the girl that he does not want her anymore and she must leave immediately…

I feel like 1 and 2 can change around positions though. I feel like the savage is the worst for raping her, but the boatman for helping him, get’s 4th. The civilized man is very stupid for not wanting the girl back after an incident she could not control.

I don’t see how the wise man represents how a person values logic. The wise man gave absolutely no logic or reasoning in his advice. It was just some mystical orical bull. That and the civilized man is absolutely insane. I mean to mistake a woman being raped for cheating on him is outrageous. The wise man is actually a jerk because he gives her terrible advise. Clearly the boatman has poor intentions. Who would suggest a woman get on a boat alone with a man that insists she’s naked? The savage man is the only one I can’t blame. I mean he’s just a beast. Like a mentally ill man I cannot hold him responsible for the evils he does. He is an animal in a human body. He is to be restrained, but not punished. The girl, although having little responsibility, is stupid for getting in the boat naked along with trusting the non-so-wise-man.

The wise man as a figure of authority (as presented in the story) and someone who holds the key to knowledge proved to be inadequate. As a wise man he should know better.
Anyway, the average person reading a story will probably sympathize with the protagonist (the girl) or will just want to watch how the events unfold gaining a pleasure by reading/watching (probably acting like the boatman). World is full of girls and boatmen.
Using the story for a personality test is just absurd.

#11 I said the exact same thing although I was unsure about whether to put the girl above the wise man or not. However, I am pretty confused by and disagree with the interpretations. How does the wise man represent logic when he says do what your heart tells you? That is the most “unlogical” thing he could have said. How does the boatman represent the need to earn money when he didn’t want money, he just wanted to see the naked girl (I expected him to be the one to rape her when I read that part.) And why would the savage represent the importance of sex in your life when he went crazy and RAPED the girl?! That makes me feel like there are saying that people who are desperate for sex and “value” sex in their lives are allowed to just go around raping people out of crazed passion. I was tempted to put the wild man last instead of the civilized man, except that the wild man is technically innocent and knows no better, and was acting purely off of instinct.

a) The wise man is the opposite of logic. He literally told the girl to leave him alone and do as she pleased.
b) The boatman just offered to transport her free of charge, so i fail to see how that correlates with the need of money…
c) The savage did only what his primal surges pointed, so he wanted to reproduce, not simply to have sex…
d) The civilized man saw his girlfriend being raped and instead of doing something to stop it, chose to send her off. Again, nothing relating to other people’s opinions…

The wiseman didn’t tell the girl what to do, the girl made her own disicion, so the wiseman is free of blame.
The boatman made the rules on how the girl could get the ferry, she didnt have to, the girl made her own choice. Nor the girl ore the boatman could forsee what the savage would do (the boatman didnt rape her, so how would he expect someone else to do so)
The savage has not learned to controll his beastly behaviour, for he is a savage, ergo he does not know what emotional consequenses his actions have on the girl.
The civilized guy on the other hand should not just judge what he sees, but be sivilizes enough to ask her for her story
The girl made her own choise, for wanting to be with a man and made her sacrefices. She could have stayed on her island, letting the civilizes man come to her, so she wouldnt have to get all naked for some boatman
