If you think you’re smart, think again. There are those who are classified as the smartest people in the world!

I’m not saying you’re unintelligent, but there are those whose intelligence surpasses the common human intellect. Here are a few examples of the smartest people in the world. This list of the 10 smartest people in the world was released by the website superscholar.org.

Who are the smartest people in the world?

A person takes the “title” of genius if their IQ exceeds 140, which belongs to 0.5% of the world population. 50% of people have IQ between 90 and 110, while 2.5% of the population reaches a genius level with IQ of over 130.

However, the website notes that the list is not objective, as far as there are many different factors, besides the IQ, which determines how smart someone is.

So, here are the Top 10 smartest people in the world:

10. Steven Hawking

First off, at number 10, he is an astrophysicist, with IQ of 160. Stephen Hawking, despite being diagnosed with a motor neuron disease an early age, continued to pursue his dreams.

The strength and support given him by his then-wife, Jane Wilde, also helped him continue despite diversities.

9. Rick Rosner

American TV writer, Rosner, (IQ 192), has a checkered past, being employed in such positions as stripper and male model. He tried to sue the television show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? just because he answered a question incorrectly and lost the competition.

As far as “genius” status goes, he still managed to place second, behind Greek psychiatrist Evangelos Katsioulis, in The Guinness Book directory, 2013, Genius of the Year Awards.

8. Garry Kasparov

Kasparov, (IQ 190), former world chess champion, became famous for his abilities at a young age. In 1980, at the age of 17, he was considered a grandmaster of chess. Five years later, he became the youngest world champion.

7. Paul Allen

The billionaire co-founder of Microsoft  (IQ 170), convinced partner Bill Gates to leave Harvard to chase a mutual dream. Due to a diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma, Allen stepped away from Microsoft and eventually resigned.

However, he did go on to gain success in many other areas including the purchase of the Seattle Sea Hawks.

6. Judit Polgar

Hungarian chess player  (IQ 170), was undoubtedly the best female chess player in the world. The reason for her high IQ may have had something to do with her father’s experiments while raising her and her sisters.

He said, “Geniuses are raised not born“. He could have been right, you can raise some of the smartest people in the world.

5. Andrew Wiles

Award-winning mathematician  (IQ 170) is best known for proving Fermat’s Last Theorem in 1995, which was listed as the most difficult mathematical problem in the Guinness Book of World Records.

4. James Woods

Woods (IQ 180) was a famous actor, who before turning on the lights of Hollywood, studied algebra at UCLA and MIT.

3. Kim Ung-Yong

Third on the list is the 50-year-old astrophysicist, Ung-Yong, (IQ of 210). From the age of two years he could speak four languages with ease and at the age of eight, he was invited by NASA to study in the United States.

2. Christopher Hirata

In second place is the 30-year-old astrophysicist, with an estimated IQ of 225. Among his accomplishments, he started working at NASA when he was 16 years old, participated in studies of colonization of the planet Mars, and received his Ph.D. from Princeton University at age 22.

1. Terence Tao

The first position in the list, with estimated IQ of 230, is held for 36 year old mathematician Terence Tao, who was able to do simple math since the age of two, got a doctorate from Princeton University when he was 20 years old, and became the youngest professor in the history of UCLA at the age of 24.

So, how is your IQ?

Maybe you are just as smart as these guys, and maybe you’re just keeping it low profile. What are you doing with your knowledge? If you are this intelligent, please share it with the world!

Interesting list! It’d be nice if there were more than one woman on this list, though (Judit Polgar). Maybe there should be a a top-10 men and top-10 women? Who would you recommend? I wonder what criteria were used to make the selections. The original site looks like one of those “Websites” designed to funnel people to buy something or sign up for something–in this case colleges. Incidentally — the name of that website, superscholar.org, is misspelled in your title. Also, a high IQ doesn’t necessarily mean a person will be successful, or even a kind, contributing member of society. I think quite a few serial killers have high IQs, not to mention Wall Street brokers! 🙂 OK, I think I’m done posting comments on the internet that nobody will read … thank you, and good day.

He is currently a member of 8 IQ societies, including the exclusive Giga Society. Only 1 in 30 billion people will match their intelligence levels.

Brazilian genius Andrew Amaurick has an IQ of 175

Nobody is intelligent in this world if you believe in you for desire thinking that will be excellent for you in good philosophy and without considering the forth while in between concentrating you will not have the power to judge it, actually nobody that have potential to do it. By guiding desperate orders you will get approach not importance of it.

Funny how those with IQ’s nearly 200 receive acknowledgement from organizations and colleges employing people with average IQ’s of say 120 + and that becomes their highest achievement. PhD D, Grand-master and so forth are titles they receive… yet no one cares to mention life works… they speak four languages by age 5… How have they changed the world? What contributions did these men give that spurred mankind beyond what was once considered to now a reality…. what did these people do that changed humanities direction so profoundly that we no longer recognize our former selves because we evolved into something so much more spectacular….Seattle Seahawks… I could have done that… it doesn’t take brilliance to buy a football team, just paper. Seems IQ contributes nothing to philanthropy.
