What does it mean when you dream about someone? You have probably asked yourself this common question at least once in your life. Almost everyone is curious to know why.

I have night terrors, and at the moment, I’m still trying to figure out whether I should read more about it or partake in a sleep study. But, for most of you, there’s still the simple desire for dream interpretation and understanding why Uncle Louie keeps dancing in your visions at night, right?

Well, you get the idea. So, when you dream about someone, there are more than a few interpretations, to be honest.

Dr. Mayer, clinical psychologist, said,

“Analyzing the people who appear in your dreams can be a really telling and interesting peek into your mind that could ultimately lead to some pretty cool self-discovery.”

A broad understanding of dreams

Well, to first grasp an understanding of these visions at night, you must learn how dreams work. Dreams happen for a number of reasons or beliefs.

While some people only see dreams as random thoughts which shuffle around to create scenarios, many others see dreams as statements of deep meaning. If you think dreams have deep meaning, then seeing someone in your dreams can really be significant.

Otherwise, we could categorize seeing someone in our dreams as circumstantial, only imprints after seeing them in real life the day before. So, let’s focus on this significance and go from there, shall we?

Why does Uncle Louie appear?

So, you’re sleeping and suddenly your dead uncle appears in your dream. And look! He’s dancing in the corner and smiling. What would you surmise is the reason for uncle Louis jovial presence? In this instance, you see him as happy and celebrating, but since he is no longer among the living, this might not make sense to you.

Pay attention, the interpretation of the dream depends on your feelings toward your uncle. Did you get along with him? Was he a happy man in life? Was Uncle Louie a dancer? You see where I am going with this?

Your uncle Louie is in your dream for a reason. The most common reason to dream of a deceased loved one is to make peace with them. Since Uncle Louie looks pretty happy, it can be said that he is at peace. If you didn’t get along with him in life, then you could be attempting to see him as a cheerful creature and not the enemy you were used to.

I will just be honest with you, if you take the time to really pay attention to the elements of your dream, you might be able to interpret them on your own.

What does it mean when you dream about someone you know?

Do you see my point with the “uncle Louie” example? Now that you have a taste, let’s move on. I am going to talk about a few categories of people and help you understand how to interpret what their presence means in your dreams.

Mother

Let’s talk about mom first. Dreaming of your mother can symbolize your need for a nurturing persona in your life. It can also mean you need to get in touch with your own nurturing character within.

If you are dreaming that you’re having a conversation with your mother, then maybe you need someone like her to give you advice. Maybe you are simply missing her.

Father

In the case of your father, dreams like this come to boost your confidence. When you have dreams about your dad, these visions could be telling you that you need to be more independent and learn to make decisions on your own.

Mind you, this is only the symbolic meaning. If you feel like your dreams are trying to warn you of something concerning your father, then maybe you should spend more time with him and pay more attention to what he has to say.

Both parents

Seeing your parents together in a dream could symbolize the power of love and connection. On the other hand, it could also mean that you’re having problems with these same issues – you know, love and togetherness.

When dreaming of both parents, pay attention to the overall mood, and if you are a lucid dreamer, notice whether the atmosphere is dark or bright. This could be an indication of the meaning.

Your intimate partner

Dreaming of your boyfriend or girlfriend depends on the mood, surroundings, and status of your relationship. If you’re dreaming of your mate and you have a happy relationship, you could be having loving thoughts that slipped into your nighttime rest.

On the other hand, if you are having relationship troubles, your dreams could be trying to tell you how to fix these problems.

Dreams of your partner could also have deeper meanings such as symbols of security, or on the flip side, symbols of being the with the wrong person entirely.

This is why it’s not always easy to find the true meaning of this type of dream. I suggest you keep a dream journal of these visions and pay close attention to all details associated with the experience. You need to know why someone appears in your dreams in any case but especially if it’s your partner.

Your Ex-partner

Dreaming of your ex-boyfriend or girlfriend is also not easy to interpret, but it is a little simpler, surprisingly. The majority of dreams you have about your ex doesn’t mean what you think.

It doesn’t really mean you want to be with them again, it usually means there are still unresolved issues surrounding your break up. This could mean dividing properties and issues with your children if you have any together. So breathe easy and don’t just run back to your last intimate partner. That might not be necessary.

Friends

What does it mean when you dream about a person from your circle of friends? I recently found a quite interesting interpretation of dreams involving close friends.

It seems that a common meaning of friend dreams is the acknowledgment of those aspects of self you have rejected. It seems that these aspects of yourself that you rejected may be characteristics that you wouldn’t mind experiencing in others.

If you are dreaming about your friends, yes, you could be dreaming of love and unity, but you could also be throwing a lifeline to those old ways you chose to abandon. It’s a way of keeping a part of the original you, in case you feel nostalgic, strange huh…

Enemies

We all have dreams of enemies, you know those nightmares where we run from them or face them in a fight. Usually, when dreaming of the enemy, we are facing something we fear in life or at least something we dislike.

If we are still afraid in the dream, the enemy still has control. If we face the enemy, we are facing our fears, or we soon will. Maybe our dream is our decision to stand up for ourselves. If we kill the enemy, we usually have unresolved anger toward them, and maybe we should seek peace before a confrontation.

What does it mean when you dream about someone you don’t know?

What about the meaning of dreams about a person you don’t know in real life? Most people have dreams about individuals they don’t even know. In most instances where you dream of unknown persons, your mind is trying to fill a void with a substance, or in this case, a generic person.

These dreams can also mean the unknown people are just representations of yourself, parts of you that are either unsavory or misunderstood. If you’ve noticed, although these people do have features, those features aren’t as memorable when you wake.

Self-interpretation

Considering dreams have so many different meanings and factors point to many variances, you must ultimately make your own interpretation. So the meaning of dreams which involve different people in one’s life is different for everyone.

Only you know the truth about the status and mood of your life. Although you may seem confused, deep down inside, you hold the key to why you pulled Uncle Louie into your nighttime visions. Remember that dream journal I mentioned earlier?

Let’s keep a record of our dreams and maybe we can find true meaning within.

    This is not true:
