There are things you must remember if you don’t know what to do with your life. It’s not as bad as it may seem.

Say you’re in your 40s like me, and you still haven’t bought a house or finished your college degree. I guess for some people that sounds terrible, but honestly, it’s okay. If you’re not sure what the meaning of your life is, then that means you have a few more chances to figure out things about yourself. That’s always interesting.

What you should keep in mind when you’re not sure what to do with your life…

If haven’t figured out the meaning of your life yet, you could be at an important impasse. You could be at a crossroads that offers different options for what you’ve achieved thus far. It’s best to see this place as positive instead of negative.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind during this process and time of your life.

1. Finding comfort in discomfort

Discomfort can make you feel like you’re not on the right track because it seems like a negative thing. Although discomfort is not pleasurable, it’s actually more positive than you think. Honestly, discomfort sometimes means you ARE on the right track.

Again, when you’re not sure what to do with your life, then remember the discomfort you feel isn’t necessarily bad. While comfort keeps you in a familiar zone, discomfort means you’re changing. As we’ve learned so far, change can be a good thing.

2. Try new things

When you feel stuck, here’s an idea. Being at an impasse in life provides you with the opportunity to try things you’ve never done. When you try new things, you often realize so many of your hidden attributes. If you didn’t try new things, you might not have walked other paths in life either.

So, if you’re not sure about your life or your purpose, then going on adventures or starting new hobbies could be a good idea. When things seem cloudy, it’s time to experiment and come out of that shell. Just think of it that way.

3. Be selective

If your life seems undetermined at the moment, just let it be that way. Do not pressure yourself into defining goals pertaining to where you are in life. Just because you are a parent, remember, you are more than that as well. Do not accept normal parental roles if you don’t choose to. Instead, be what you want and still be a good parent.

Many times, people will accept a role approved by society, and this move is what keeps them stuck. If you’re not sure what to do with life, then make sure you don’t fall into roles that make you unhappy just because those roles are expected of you. Do you see what I mean?

4. Timing is important

If you’re not exactly where you think you should be, then not to worry. All things come in time. This is why patience is so important. Think about it this way, if you rush things, then you could be placing yourself in another person’s dreams and goals and not your own.

It is important to wait until the time is right to make certain moves. You will usually know when this time comes.

5. Get a handle on procrastination

Now that I’ve made you feel good about yourself, let me throw out some critique. You absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, have to stop procrastinating. Procrastination is the greatest enemy of realizing your purpose in life. You cannot get anywhere sitting around thinking about how successful you can be.

Success takes action, and the lack of success is one reason why people don’t know what to do with their life. It’s time to stop putting off important things and start tackling life’s priorities and dreams. If not, you will wake up old and full of regret. Sorry, just had to kick you in the shins there to make sure you’re still awake.

6. Don’t lose yourself

Now, that you’re primed and ready to take action, I need you to remember one last thing. Do not forget who you are. No matter how many friends you have or loved ones, don’t lose sight of you and what you want in life. It’s incredibly easy to bury your life’s passions under the needs of others. You just cannot do this.

It’s okay if you’re not sure what you should do with your life

It really is okay. Although life may be passing you by, you can still make choices that propel you into the places you want to be, and in record time. Trust me, I’ve done it. Before you give up, take another shot at life.

Here’s one step to get you started: Make a decision that you are beautiful, intelligent, and so worth reaping the benefits of a full life. Now take that and do great things. You can get there. I have hope for you.

All good suggestions, but when I look back timing has been especially important when it involves moving to another city. Have good reasons for your chosen place, be well prepared, and make sure you aren’t running from something inside you.

Yes, I agree. It’s all in the motivations and careful thinking. Making these decisions are difficult.

Thank you Sherrie for this post 🙂 it reminds me to stay true to myself. I have gotten lost in what others want of me and I’m trying to be me but it’s hard. But I do see things around me that remind me of me like my collage on my wall. Some things just seem so out of reach right now. Thank you again for the hope 🙂

Many people have lost themselves in others. It can happen before you know it. But yes, stay true to you. That’s the only way you will feel good about your life.
