You are probably a better person than you think. Yes, there are those who do bad things and don’t even regret it, but don’t be so hard on yourself. Maybe you are one of the good individuals.

Whether it’s due to low self-esteem or guilt, you are probably a better person than you think you are. Maybe you haven’t achieved goals in a self-appointed time frame. Maybe you have made many mistakes as well.

But this doesn’t mean you are a bad person or a failure. You could indeed be a wonderful individual.

Are you a better person than you think?

You could actually be a much better person than you believe you are. In fact, what is the accurate definition of a good person? While there are many definitions, what we as a society believe to be good varies from person to person.

So, let’s examine the idea that you might be better than you think.

1. You show kindness

Being polite and kind is the mark of a good person. When you do this, you are treating others like you would want to be treated. This may include opening doors for others or picking up change for people in front of you at the checkout line in the store.

Even the smallest of things do not go unnoticed and are traits that you have a good heart. Kindness and politeness also make you feel happier as well.

2. You are respectful

If you bump into someone, you say things like, “excuse me” or other versions of this expression. Maybe you didn’t hurt anyone, but it’s appropriate to let others know that you unintentionally bumped them.

Respecting others and their space shows maturity, and this maturity is a sign of a truly good person.

3. You are honest

Sometimes being honest is easy, while at other times, it can be the most difficult thing to do. You may be a better person than you think if you go out of your way to always be truthful, no matter how difficult it is.

Even though honesty can be harsh, you could find tactful ways to tell the truth. This care with conviction proves you are better than you’ve thought.

4. You are a positive person

Keeping an optimistic attitude is also a trait of a good person with a powerful character. Yes, it is easy to become negative with all the bad things going on in the world, but there’s another way to look at these things.

When you’re actually better than you think, you will have the habit of looking on the bright side of every situation, finding the light in the darkness, and seeing the best in everyone. It’s just all about embodying optimism.

5. You take responsibility

Some people do everything in their power to shirk responsibility for their actions. A good person can accept responsibility for things they do, both good and bad.

Taking responsibility doesn’t mean you’re admitting to being a bad person. Everyone makes mistakes and bad decisions at some point. So accepting your failures actually means you have succeeded in something more important – humanity.

6. You are wise, and you share your wisdom

Being wise is not about being intelligent. It’s about learning from life experiences. And why is this important? Why does this make you a better person than you think?

Well, wisdom can be passed to others to help them avoid the same mistakes you made. While many people don’t want to listen to wisdom, as it sometimes isn’t conveyed perfectly, others do listen.

Some people learn so much that they can use in life by utilizing this wisdom. You are a good person if you’ve collected wisdom and love to share lessons with others. Just understand that it’s not always accepted easily.

7. You don’t feel sorry for yourself

Self-pity will hold you back. It can also make you a bitter person filled with hatred for the world.

If you’re able to survive a lifetime of trauma and pain, and still be optimistic and smile, you probably don’t feel sorry for yourself. You probably realize that everyone has their share of pain and sadness. You’re probably a good person at heart.

8. You give honest compliments

You’re a better person than you think if you pay compliments to others. I don’t mean you use frivolous compliments to make people like you. You give out genuine compliments born from things you notice at the moment.

While you shouldn’t voice all your thoughts, giving someone a compliment on their hairstyle or outfit is usually okay. And when you make the point of paying a compliment, it shows your kind character.

You are better than you think

I struggle in this area, so this topic was right on time for me. Sometimes, especially when bad things seem to happen to us over and over again, we get discouraged. We may even start to question what type of person we are. But, I bet if you do these things I mentioned above; you are actually quite a great person.

So, go easy on yourself. Appreciate who you are. If there are things you need to change, that’s okay. We all have issues and imperfections. It’s about our attitude and our heart. I bet, if you took the time to read this, you are a better person than you think.

Be blessed.
