Every once in a while, it’s healthy and productive to step back and evaluate where you are, as well as where you’re going. If you ever feel like you’re in a slump, it helps to see things through new eyes.
If you need the inspiration to reach your goals or a reason to let go of things from the past that are holding you down, there are plenty of inspirational movies that can empower you to do just that.
The young protagonist of Remember Me doesn’t fit the mold that society wants. He’s trying his best to become a better person, and to impress his father. You watch him navigate his life, make important decisions, and set out on a quest to become a better person.
It’s the way the film ends that will make you step back and question everything. The sentiment becomes very clear in a moment of seconds. No spoilers here – you’re going to have to experience this one for yourself.
Everyone can benefit from the perspective offered by Remember Me.
You’ve probably heard of a fisherman’s story. He’ll come home, and tell everyone he caught a giant or mythical fish, even though he didn’t do so well. This concept is embedded deep within Big Fish.
This is one of Tim Burton’s serious works. It’s a film about a man and his sick, aging father revisiting the stories he told about his life. Some of them seem to be larger than life tales, but are they?
Big Fish will make you appreciate the crazy ordeals that have happened to you, and learn to turn them into something great.
You can’t change the past or the way the best and worst parts of your life have connected to make you who you are. Arrival, on the surface, is a soft science fiction film about aliens making contact with humans, and their relationship with a professional linguist who has been tasked by the government with understanding the way they communicate.
The film is about the personal voyage of the aliens just as much as it’s about the personal voyage of the protagonist, and her life is certain to make you examine your own. It’s a little heart-wrenching at times, but that’s exactly what makes it so thought-provoking.
Melancholia is a darker film, and it certainly has some sharp edges. This Lars Von Trier drama is about a family going about their lives, knowing that there’s a possibility that the apocalypse might be looming over them. A planetary event threatens Earth, and the family examines all of their choices.
What would you do if you knew the world might end tomorrow, and would you be happy with the decisions you’re currently making? This is what Melancholia explores, and it’s a concept worth exploring.
This is a colorful, stylistic Wes Anderson film that’s just as intellectually stimulating as it is visually stimulating. The titular Steve Zissou, portrayed by Bill Murray, is a famous marine biologist who broadcasts his explorations. When his partner is killed by what he believes to be a somewhat mythical sea creature, the world doubts him.
This is a film about how far you may be willing to go to prove that you’re right, and what you’d be willing to face to prove your reputation.
You’ll be in knots the whole time about whether or not Zissou will be vindicated, and whether the choices he made along the way were harmful or helpful. Zissou provides a deeply emotional learning experience for everyone.
