Mystics claim that the world of our dreams can be a connection to other worlds, inaccessible to our waking consciousness, so it is not a coincidence that since ancient times, it was believed that dreams of dead people are an important sign that must not be ignored.
The dead come to our dreams with a message, advice or warning that should be understood in order to avoid unnecessary troubles and keep ourselves from making mistakes, according to mystics.
Psychologists believe that dreams about relatives or friends who have passed away are just a manifestation of depression or feelings of guilt towards them.
However, let’s take a closer look at the mystical point of view and try to understand what messages can be carried by people who are now alive only in our memories and can talk to us only through our dreams.
Modern dream books often do not pay enough attention to many important nuances: what the dead people look like in our dreams – dead in the grave, alive and happy, or they come to life right before our eyes, or maybe we just do not remember in our dream that this person passed away long ago.
Interpretations of dreams about deceased people
It is commonly assumed that the dream of a dead person (talking to him, listening to his advice, and doing what he tells) is a sign of unexpected news or changes in life. Christian dream interpretation books sometimes explain that we have such kind of dreams when the soul of our deceased relative or friend has not found peace yet, and advise to hold additional ceremonies at the funeral and repose of the deceased (for example, if in the dream the deceased asks for water).
Pagan interpretations of dreams that have come down to us recommend to implicitly obey everything that the dead person asks for, in order to avoid the anger of the gods. And while dreaming dead people may be scary, sometimes it can be a good omen.
In case if in your dream a dead person comes back to life, it may mean that something lost will soon return (money, a thing, or even social status).
An English dream book interprets the dream of dead people as a sign of good events in the family, such as a wedding or the birth of a child or anything happy and prosperous. Another dream book says that seeing a dead relative in a dream before the wedding is a warning against the union. This dream indicates the unhappy marriage and warns that the children born in it will be sick and weak.
What about the dreams of a deceased relative?
At this point, there is no definitive interpretation, and you should always take into account many confounding factors. But most interpretations concerning dead relatives (especially parents) appearing in a dream indicate a warning of trouble.
Sometimes the dreams in which a sleeping person communicates with their deceased parents, help find inner peace, confidence, and even affect the success in business and the well-being of the family.
It is also believed that it is impossible to influence the dreams in which we see our dead loved ones. Mystics claim that even if you manage to do it, it is absolutely useless, since it is not us who call them in, it is them who decide to come to us.

Three years ago I learned that an ex colleague of mine has died. But before I learned about his death I was often seeing him in dream. Last night I saw him again like he got back from somewhere and I say hello to him and I try to hug him but he did not want me to hug him, he said shaking hands is enough.

This has happened to me. My mom, who is deceased, appears almost nightly in my dreams and she is cleaning or organizing, but not talking to me or interacting with me. Saw a ghost in my dream this evening, and experienced some really annoying hot sparks (some kind of energy transfer around me), as if I was about to fall severely ill. On waking up, though, I found myself to be absolutely normal. Then I came to this website searching for its overall meaning, only to find it’s comments being amassed with similar other experiences. I’ve been dreaming very heavily since the last few months, which also interestingly coincides with an improved overall health, after having faced a lean patch since 2011. I even dreamt about snakes a couple of nights ago. Think it was time, I started meditating regularly again, which I’ve stopped in the recent few years after having gone through some mesmerizing experiences over a decade ago. I have had 2 different dreams about friends who have died in auto accidents they come to me all distort asking me what happened to them? In the last month I’ve had 3 dreams with 3 different people that have passed away years ago. A best friend, a friend and a brother in law. I haven’t thought of these people in years. So nothing to jog a random memory or anything like that. So my best friend died in a motorcycle wreck while in the military but was a police officer in my dream. It was like he was older and never died. He said “good to see you and we’ll talk later but go that way” and pointed me in a direction. The dream was at night. A week later I had a dream of a friend that died in a over dose and all she did was smile at me. The dream had a kind of dark feeling to it. And last night my brother in law that committed suicide visited me. He was all happy and looking like his best self in a white suit and he wanted to go hunting quil on your farm so we did. I walked into the field and saw something and it was black he said “it was a rare one (quil) and to catch it” so i started to stalk it and it saw me turned around and ran at me. I jumped on it. It tried to bite then I woke up. Seriously what the he’ll? I haven’t thought of these people in years why all the sudden 3 different people in 3 months? Is this just random?
I myself have had a number of dreams of my past relatives, a friend, and of my mother in law who passed away most recently. I’ve had one dream in which my brother, a friend, and grandmother were all in the same dream. Another dream with just my brother, and most recently, two separate dreams of my brother and my mother. It seems that it’s becoming a pattern.
Have there been anything in the dream that makes them similar in any way at all? Maybe like a mood that they all seem to be stuck in? I keep having dreams about my sister. She passed away recently. I have had one of her being alive again and then she passed always again and rose from the dead. The I just had one again where everything was back to normal. It was like she didn’t know she was dead. But I knew, I knew that it was a dream. In my head in the dream I knew that that would be an opportunity to tell her how much I love her. I too had a similar dream, like you I knew this person was deceased. Similarly, this person didn’t seem to know or I didn’t get the sense that he was of aware of his mortally. Yes, it was clear this was a dream and I had an subconscious awareness of the fact. Why else would I be at work, standing under the stair case smoking a cigarette? The scene was an ominous replications of hot but pleasant summer afternoon. The sky displayed a burnt orange tint that illuminated the area where I was standing, alone.
A breeze separated the two building adjacent to where I was standing, smoking a newport cigarette. My friend, who died a couple of weeks prior from multiple gunshot comes strolling through the breezeway. He had this big smile and a lively pep to his step. “What’s up hommie?” he said as he walked toward me. To my amazement and baffling confusion I asked, Man don’t you know you died? Immediately his face took a more serious statue, far from full of life bright smile he greeted me with. What he told me I will never forget. You need to go to the doctor and get checked out, he said in a calm voice. Before I could engage him with more questions, he exited the scene in a reverse manner of his entrance. Yes, he walked backwards around the building, down the breeze way. I then woke up and told my wife of my unexpected visitor, my friend.
His words stuck to me like humidity on a hot Louisiana day, so I decided to schedule an check up with my doctor. I explained some of the symptoms I exhibited in the past. Nothing serious enough to warrant a visit to my doctor or ER but I felt I needed to expose everything as I didn’t know the medical reason to speak to my doc other than the words spoken to me from my deceased friend. The doc heard enough and wanted to investigate my GI via scope. This was an excessive procedure for a 34 yrs male, but I glad he did. Three polyps were removed, one the size of a dime. I think my friend saved me from a round with cancer and at 42 I am living a healthy life. So to answer your question “Could it be true?” Yes, yes it can.
This isn’t the reason for me visiting this site tho, just reading through comments looking for answers to a dream I experience last night. Here’s a high level overview:
* Pictures of deceased people (non friend or relatives) with a feeling of being watched. Started as one picture multiplied to 15 or 20, no one talked or spoke a word.
* Experience sense of fear, not as in fear that my life was in danger but the fear of the unknown, abnormal situation. I think they sensed my fear and tried to used pictures to conceal their appearance.
* weird part: my alarm clock disrupted my sleep 3x’s and I went right back to the same dream. 1st alarm: I figured that was weird, but I could use 10 more min of sleep. 2nd alarm: I layed in bed trying to process what was happening, fell back to sleep. 3rd alarm: I jump out of bed, confused because re-entering dreams has never happened to me, even when I wanted to.
My friend passed away about a month ago. He was stabbed… i have been dreaming him like two times now. And in my dream i know ge is dead and when i see him i ask him ‘but arent u dead?’ And he is like ‘no’. Now today i dreamt him again bt dis time he didnt answer when i asked him the same question. about a week ago I dreamed of my friend that passed for almost 10 years ago and we had so much fun in the dream communicating with each other full of smiles, but then just before I woke up, I was informed that he has passed again and I was crying. was it something that he wanted to tell me? I do not like having dreams about dead people. If I have a dream about a person who has passed and they are in the dream with a live person something usually happens to the live person. Before my Father passed my grandmother was in my dream. I felt really hostile towards her because I knew she wasn’t supposed to be there but she said she was waiting for someone and she kept going towards my Dad, which was kinda strange because she was actually my Mom’s mother and I don’t think she like my dad. Right before my mother passed my Father was in the dream, same feeling of he shouldn’t be there, I confronted him and ask him what he was doing there. He said he was waiting for my Mother. People seem to want to believe there is communication with people that are no longer alive. It’s desperation and it is not possible.
There are people who believe such things as visiting aliens, ghosts, the magic man in the sky, dreams having mystical meanings, sacrificing animals to gain access to the dead, tarotcard readings etc.
very sad and these beliefs lead to people being vulnerable and taken advantage of.
I had quite a few different things has happened to me. I really can not think there is a explanation, but talking about dreams now. I dream most of the time about friends, sister in law, brother, people that wasn’t my friends, I knew them and different people . I often dream of my dead cousin sister who died 4 years ago due to cancer. We weren’t really close but now that she is gone I really really miss her. I got no chance to meet her on her death bed And she is always angry with me in her dreams. Not talking to me, not looking at me which makes me sad and vulnerable.

A teacher I was very close friends with passed away a few months ago and last night I had a dream where I went to go see him in his office. When I saw him he looked normal enough and I began to question if he had even died. Sometimes my dreams make way more time pass than actually has passed and sometimes I get things in dreams mixed up with the waking world. I started to wonder if I had dreamed that he has been dead for so many months. In other cases, I have dreamed of someone dying and I wake up believing that they had died until I’m reminded otherwise.
The strange thing was that my teacher seemed to know what I was thinking and assured me that he was, in fact, dead and I was dreaming. It’s not often someone in my dream tell me I’m dreaming.
He told me I could stay in his office for a little bit but I’d have to leave eventually. I wanted him to come with me, obviously, because something in my head told me that if I left I’d never see him again. He told me he had to stay, and that made me angry and sad. Eventually though, I did leave and said goodbye. I woke up after that.
I still don’t know what that meant. I’m a Christian so I don’t believe I saw a ghost or anything. I wonder if it was God telling me to let go. I’ve never had a friend die before, and months later it’s still hard to accept that he passed away. This dream helped me realize that I guess I’m not as well adjusted as I thought. He wasn’t just a big part of my life, he was a very active member of my small home town. Even before I learned German from him I would see him everywhere. He was the photographer for both the school and town newspaper and had taught at our high school for almost 30 years. He was a very beloved friend to all of us and his death really shook everyone.
I guess a good thing to come out of this is, if I did see him, he seemed happy and content. Even if was just my imagination, it was helpful to see him in good spirits and in his office of all places. He loved his teaching job a lot.
Last night i saw my mother dreams .at the dream we have together and she was very sick and she needs blood. Everybody told us they want to give us but they didn’t. I want to give her but we didn’t match. And later same dream she is smile and listening music to my phone. And when I am wake my eye full of tears. I’m dreaming of my Aunt for almost every night, every month, for about 8 years. I never forget my first dream of her not less than a month when she passed away. In my dream, she was saying, “your Mother! your Mother! your Mother!” in an angry voice talking to me. Then I wake up and took the kitchen to have some water and then I saw my mom talking with my Aunt’s husband. Sad part is they’re planning about their life together even my Aunt’s death is not yet accepted by the family.
Other dreams are: We go shopping. She has a business but we both know in my dream that she was already dead and all her body organs have been gone but she just smile when I said it.

I really really miss my Aunty because she means everything to me. She died with cancer and up until now, I can’t accept the fact that she’s no longer and will never be with us anymore. I’m also thankful that even in my dreams I can talk to her and see her with her beautiful face.

Whay does it mean?
My mama passed recently and I had a dream of her for 5 consecutive days. The first dream I had was very detailed wherein she was asking me to go with her and have dinner. She even offered to have a couple of rounds of beer. I told her I was gonna follow, then I got lost in the way. My other dreams of her all included conversations and laughter but I don’t remember what we’ve talked about. I started a novena and all my dreams of her suddenly stopped. Still keep on thinking of her everyday though.

A couple weeks. I dreamt my male cousin and as of today I dreamt my husbands male cousin as well.why would I be sreaming them or what could it mean? On my cousins dream I dreamt that we were in a sweet 15 and he was sitting right by me but I was been rude trying to ignore him putting my back tiwards him and hardly talking to him when in real life we were very close……… Then my husbands cousin I met him and talked him a few times only before he passed. i was so confused about my dreams which made me decide to read anything about it. 3 days ago i dreamed a dead man who buried in a place where theres a guava tree and the field is with a very healthy green carabao’s grass and fit not so deep. theres comes a man who is very angry claiming the body who is a relative accdg to him. but what peculiar is different person he blamed a friend of mine i saw his face outside the window who is very angry. it ends there.

August 9th a friend of mine passed away. We where a bit estranged befor he died but I still very cared for this man. I also found out I was pregnant not even a week befor he passed. That night I started bleeding which led to a misscarrage. I have been having dreams tho that my friend is dead in my dream but then comes back to life. One time we had a convo about his wallet was stolen and who I think stole it. This time we really didn’t talk but I found my self concerned that my family was going to lose his house he left us because we put so much work into getting it ready for us to move in.
