The sacral chakra is responsible for movement, flow, and pleasure. If your life lacks these things, it may be that your sacral chakra is blocked.

The chakras represent the power centers of our bodies and are vertically aligned, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. The second chakra in our body is called Swadhisthana – in translation from Sanskrit, this means sweetness. It is also called the sacral chakra and is located at two fingers under the coccyx or tailbone.

The chakra system was first recognized in the Orient as the foundation of certain Hindu, Buddhist, and Taoist teachings. The chakras form what these cultures call the anatomy of the human spirit.

What is Swadhisthana or the Sacral Chakra?

Swadhisthana is all about movement, flow, care, pleasure, sexuality, relationships, procreation. It represents the male and female valences of ourselves. It is about creating joy, happiness, and loving relationships.

The energy of the sacral chakra stores desires, feelings, and emotions. The society we live in does not encourage us to be ourselves, to live, and express our emotions. So from a very early age, we have to repress our emotions and desires.

We are told not to cry, not to express ourselves publicly, and to be ashamed of our own sexuality. All this suppressed energy remains stuck in the second chakra and causes imbalances.

Also, the sacral chakra hides the so-called shadow or our dark side. In other words, all those things that we do not like about ourselves. However, they can never be completely eliminated and may continue to manifest in our lives in one way or another.

“The Shadow” usually manifests itself in the faulty relationships we have or in all kinds of circumstances that repeat themselves over and over again.

When we begin to work with our sacral chakra, we will have to deal with our suppressed emotions and feelings of guilt and shame. We will also have to face and accept our flaws and understand that they also contribute to who we really are and actually help us to be a whole. It is only when we reach this understanding we will find relief.

How to Recognize if Your Sacral Chakra Is Blocked?

When your sacral chakra is balanced, you are a radiant, exuberant, and uninhibited individual. You are full of creative energy and are spontaneous, free, and happy.

However, when this chakra is unbalanced, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • lack of creativity
  • repetitive dysfunctional relationships. You may have the same unpleasant experience over and over again.
  • lack of motivation
  • lack of sexual appetite or unpleasant sexual intercourse
  • emotional confusion
  • you feel unimportant
  • you think nobody loves you
  • you think you are unaccepted by those around you or by society
  • you think you do not know how or you cannot take care of yourself

On the other hand, if your sacral chakra is too active, then you are a workaholic, dominant in relationships, greedy, obsessed with pleasure, addicted to all kinds of activities that you use as a substitute for love.

How to Heal Your Sacral Chakra

If you tend to hang or have your shoulders bent, it is very likely to be because of your unhealed sacral chakra. Trying to bring your shoulders to the front is an attempt to hide your chest or sexuality.

It can also be a gesture to protect your heart chakra. If you straighten your shoulders and open your chest, your heart chakra would open and it would be too painful to bear all the unhealed pain.

However, the sacral chakra goes hand in hand with the heart chakra since both are related to suppressed emotions and unhealed wounds.

So, in order to heal your sacral chakra, you should make a few changes in your lifestyle:

Take care of yourself

Sleep enough, eat healthy foods, and take longer showers if that helps you relax. Try going to a spa once in a while.

Be understanding with yourself

Do not criticize every action you take.

Be near water

Either by the sea, river, or lake – anything that has to do with water can be helpful.

Drink plenty of liquids

Drink water, fresh juices, soups.

Focus on your hobbies

These can be any activities that help you unleash the creativity inside you.

Make love in a tantric way

In other words, make love with lots of gentleness and attention. Treat sexual intercourse as something sacred.

Heal or give up on toxic relationships

No longer maintain connections with people that do not promote or support your growth. If there are unsolved issues or unsaid frustrations, be open and resolve them in a calm way.

Balance your masculine and feminine energies

You can try some techniques for balancing the masculine and feminine energies inside you. Yoga exercises that involve hip opening or hip rotation are excellent.

Spontaneous dance

You could also try a spontaneous dance where you let your body follow the rhythm of the music as it will help you release the blocked energies.

Remember that a change starts from within. If you wish to improve the quality of your life, you must identify what causes imbalances in your sacral chakra. Then, you need to patiently remove any obstacle.

If you have experienced some of the above symptoms, please share with us your journey and how you healed yourself!

I began my healing journey 4 years ago but it took time, patience and faith to allow the right information to come to me. I tried to learn everything at once and took it as literal study, this only overwhelmed me. The most effective way to start healing the body for me was with simple daily mediations, nothing too difficult to commit to. I started with 5 minutes a day and then gradually extended as I noticed the benefits. You tend to want more of what feels good right? Now 3 years later I still practice but the mediation opened me up to allow the healing to happen. I had to learn to be gentle with my self, it can’t be forced.

What if I stay or sleep in a place which has walls painted in Orange color then will it boost my sacral chakra and make it too active, which will cause the problems you mentioned.

If you believe in it then it will work!
So many times we are rejective and too negative about
the good stuff in our lives that suppose to work for us but we only focus on the lack instead of healing and we block it so it won’t work!
It worked for me and i am very grateful for that and i believe with patience and allowing it to happen, it will happen.Nobody knows your body or chakras more than yourself so be the healer to your own body your own chakras 🙏
    Love & Light 😊🙏

Money is the root chakra of all evil & keeps your sexuality trapped in survival mode, as everything you create is structured on money. The more you deny it, the more this hidden parasite in your nervous system controls you.

Hi…. I am an artist and very aware of my chakra energy. However since August I have not been feeling motivated and not really done anything too creative. After seeing a chiropractor I found that I had damaged vertebrae in my sacral area while kayaking in August. Connection? I think so. I am undergoing treatment I am starting to feel creative again

How do you meditate on chakras to see the imbalance?

  10. Daniel

Acceptance and self forgiveness along with self expression seem to be the root of healing this chakra. Eating plenty of greens, butternut squash, and oranges as well as gingseng, maca root, and ashwagandha(male diet) as well as filtered water and doing meditation with chakra stones and yoga for balancing. The tantric lovemaking was the last step for me and has allowed a true sense of ebb and flow.
